About the empower Union County 2020 fellowship.

Empower is a Fellowship being launched by the Union County chapter of PDNJ meant to educate, train, and enlighten people on the political and civic landscape in New Jersey.

Along with some of the foremost experts in the state in their respective fields, this program will be held virtually, once a month for nine months, and cover a variety of topics including: how to run for office, the local political landscape, the fight for affordable housing in NJ, local impact and environmental effects of climate change, community organizing, using 21st century technologies to reach voters, and more.

November’s session will be highlighted by a special lecture and Q&A with Sonia Jarvis a civil rights attorney in Washington, DC who’s carer has been distinguished as a former senior consultant to the Presidents Initiative on Race in the Clinton Administration, former Executive Director of the National Coalition on Black Voter Participation, and former President of the Black Women’s Agenda. The November lecture will focus on Black voter rights and voter suppression based on her forthcoming book on the topic from NYU Press.
